There is (was) a felt sort of material (maybe rubberized?) at the rear of the trunk (boot) floor. Originally it was attached by a type of staple (perhaps welded?). See:...

Well, the stuff I removed was stapled in. I just read a couple of Barnie's articles, where he used a length of tubing and some caulk. I'm curious if there are down sides to not replacing this piece...

I think the space at the rear edge of the trunk floor would allow water & dirt to get into the trunk. I used some closed cell foam (weatherstrip from home improvement store).
